2.1.1 Purpose

Main nature of the contract : Supplies
Main classification ( cpv ): 38000000 Laboratory, optical and precision equipments (excl. glasses)
Additional classification ( cpv ): 38510000 Microscopes

2.1.2 Place of performance

Country subdivision (NUTS) : Pirkanmaa ( FI19B )
Country : Finland

2.1.4 General information

Additional information : Tampere University (TAU) will upgrade a Tescan Clara FE-SEM with advanced HR-EBSD (High Resolution Electron Backscatter Diffraction) and EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy) detectors for studying microstructure and for performing in-situ mechanical tests (e.g. EBSD tensile and nanoindentation tests). The purpose of this procurement is to enable state-of-the-art microstructural characterization for materials research, particularly focusing on high-resolution strain mapping, phase analysis and chemical analysis at the nanoscale. HR-EBSD and EDS detectors must be compatible with each other and with the Tescan Clara FE-SEM onto which they will be installed. It must be possible to collect HR-EBSD and EDS data simultaneously with the same program. The existing Tescan Clara FE-SEM and the newly acquired EBSD and EDS detectors will be part of Operando Research Infrastructure (OperaRI) funded by Research Council of Finland's Finnish Reserach Infrastructure (FIRI) roadmap funding. Tescan Clara FE-SEM complements other advanced electron microscopy facilities at Tampere Microscopy Center ( https://www.tuni.fi/en/research/tampere-microscopy-center) and Advanced Mechanics of Materials Infrastructure ( https://www.tuni.fi/en/research/advanced-mechanics-materials) at Tampere University by enabling in-situ mechanical testing. The addition of HR-EBSD and EDS detectors will enhance the capability and complementarity further. Since OperaRI is a national level research infrastructure (RI) at Finnish national level, the Tescan Clara FE-SEM in combination with the acquired HR-EBSD and EDS detectors is expected to have both domestic and international users. Therefore, modularity, flexibility, ease-of-use and high performance are emphasized for this acquisition.
