Title : Purchase of two single-photon detectors
Description : DTU Electro intends to purchase two single-photon detectors as we are expanding our laboratory with a new optical setup. The new setup is designed for quantum optical measurements performed at millikelvin temperatures. In order to conduct quantum measurements, such as lifetime characterization of quantum emitters and second-order correlation g2 measurements, it is essential to perform time-resolved measurements with very high sensitivity. We have selected ID Quantique (IDQ) as the supplier because they provide exactly this product. They utilize the best technology currently available on the market: Superconducting Nanowire Single-Photon Detectors (SNSPDs). Among the manufacturers of SNSPDs, IDQ is market leading due to their combination of high detection efficiency, low dark count rates, and picosecond time resolution. IDQ has previously delivered a single-photon detector to our group. This enables us to install two additional detectors in the same cryostat, which will result in financial savings, both in terms of the purchase price and the additional expenditures (cooling and electrical installations). Furthermore, we can continue to use existing software as well as the automation code we have already developed for measurements. Finally, we have experimentally verified, using our current SNSPD, that the detectors meet the specifications required for the new setup.
