Works

The Works will be implemented under the FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Plant and Design-Build, First Edition 1999 (Yellow Book) and will entail the design and construction of Phase 1 (2030) 625.000 p.e of a wastewater treatment plant for the City of Skopje. The WWTP shall be an activated sludge plant comprising primary and secondary treatment for the removal of carbonaceous pollution. The plant will include facilities for the treatment of generated sludge comprising; thickening, digestion, drying and incineration on-site. The treatment process shall further accommodate odor control and energy optimization. The Works shall also include; connections to the trunk sewer system, flood protection works to the site, electrical works including substations, connections to the grid and back up generation facilities, and training of the Employer’s staff in the operation and maintenance of the facilities.

The site is located in the southeaster part of the City of Skopje in the settlement of Trubarevo (Municipality of “Gazi Baba”).

The Government of Republic of North Macedonia, represented by the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprise “Vodovod i kanalizacija Skopje” (“ViK”) a municipal company in the City of Skopje has secured two loans from the European Investment Bank – EIB and from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development – EBRD.

The Project will be co-financed by European Investment Bank – EIB and from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development – EBRD trough two loans that the Government of Republic of North Macedonia, represented by the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprise “Vodovod i kanalizacija Skopje” (“ViK”) a municipal company in the City of Skopje has secured. Additionally, the Promoter secured a grant proceeds from the Western Balkan Investment Framework (WBIF).

The Contract will be implemented under the FIDIC conditions of contract for plant and design-build, First Edition 1999 (Yellow Book) and will entail the design and construction of Phase 1 (2035), of a wastewater treatment plant for the City of Skopje. The WWTP shall be an activated sludge treatment plant for the removal of carbonaceous pollution and sized to cater for the needs of Year 2035 (Phase 1), corresponding to 37,600 kgBOD/d during wet weather conditions or approximately 625,000 Population Equivalent (PE). The design of the plant shall foresee, but not include, future upgrading to include additional treatment for nutrient removal, which will be further developed in Phase 2 (2045). The plant will include facilities for the treatment of generated sludge comprising thickening, digestion, drying and incineration on-site. The treatment process shall further accommodate odour control and energy optimisation. The works shall also include connections to the trunk sewer system, flood protection works to the site, electrical works including substations, connections to the grid and back up generation facilities, and training of the Promoter’s staff in the operation and maintenance of the facilities.

The period of implementation of the contract is with a duration of 72 months, including the following key activities:

- 36 months of design and construction

- 24 months of the Trial Operation, and

- 12 months of defects notification period.
