Direct award :
Justification for direct award : The contract can be provided only by a particular economic operator because of an absence of competition for technical reasons
Other justification : After a market survey, the conclusion is that there is only one tenderer who can cover the needs, and a contract will therefore be signed without a competition, cf. the procurement regulations § 13-4, letter b number 2. The justification for direct purchasing: The Department of Clinical Medicine and its Neuro-Sys Med/Decode PD group wishes to study the spatial distribution of transcripts within brain tissue sections form human and mice. The only type of instrument that allows us to perform this type of analysis is a spatial transcriptomic platform, which allows us to study gene expression with spatial coordinates and at subcellular level. Our needs for such a platform can be summarized as follows: 1. Integration with existing workflows in our lab 2. High sensitivity and specificity 3. Reliable cell segmentation 4. The ability to incorporate protein detection on the same tissue section 5. A streamlined, robust workflow with minimal need for optimization 6. High sample throughput 7. Comprehensive support throughout the entire process—from sample preparation to data analysis In the rapidly evolving field of spatial transcriptomics, there are only a couple of powerful tools for exploring the spatial organization of gene expression across entire tissue sections, hereunder Xenium. Xenium by 10x Genomics is a comprehensive end-to-end solution designed for high-sensitivity, targeted gene expression analysis at the subcellular level. The current approach to this type of studies is that data from single-cell studies (which have no spatial information) are used to generate more refined hypothesis that can be investigated using a spatial platform. We are currently using, and plan to do so in the future, the Chromium iX instrument from 10X Genomics to generate single-cell transcriptomic data. 10x Genomics is the only vendor who can ensure full compatibility with this existing system, in addition to offering the needed sensitivity and specificity and the possibility to carry out protein staining on the same slide.
