The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI) intends to enter into a contract for the procurement of a MALDI-TOF system with the accompanying service agreement from User Nordic AB, Cf. the Public Procurement Regulations § 13-4 letter b no. 2. FHI has, based on comprehensive market surveys, concluded that only the mentioned supplier can deliver a MALDI-TOF system that both fulfils regulatory requirements for IVD certification in accordance with EU regulations IVDR (EU 2017/746), method compatibility, support for stand-by assignments and technical requirements for the continuation of existing validated analyses and work flow. As a national reference laboratory, FHI needs both an open and closed MALDI-TOF database in order to carry out its social mission. Access to an open database is crucial to FHI's role in identifying rare or new microorganisms, which are often not covered in commercial databases. This particularly applies to outbreaks, biotheror preparedness and research.
